East Carolina University is an emerging national research university with an enrollment of nearly 29,000 students. The Department of Health Education and Promotion is comprised of 39 faculty members whose research and teaching interests span a variety of areas that center on improving the health and wellbeing of individuals, communities, populations, and the environment. The Department provides instruction for the University's general education requirement in health. More than 1,200 majors are currently enrolled in the degree programs within the Department, including the BS and MS in Environmental Health; BS in Public Health with concentrations in Community Health, Worksite Health Promotion, and Prehealth Professions; MA in Health Education; and BS and MS in Athletic Training. The BS and MS in Environmental Health programs are accredited by the National Environmental Health Science and Protection Accreditation Council (EHAC). Job tasks
East Carolina University seeks candidates for a nine-month, tenure track position as adjunct Professor of Environmental Health within the Department of Health Education and Promotion. The prosperous candidate will be expected to conduct independent research and seek external research funding. ECU has recently identified priority research areas, two of which are Big Data Analytics (BDA) and Geographic Information System (GIS) technology. prosperous candidate will be expected to contribute to one or both of these areas as applied to environmental and occupational health to expand the department's services in BDA and GIS technology for analyzing environmental and occupational exposures. The candidate will teach courses within the BS in Environmental Health (BSEH), MS in Environmental Health (MSEH), and Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) in the area of environmental and occupational health. This position is expected to provide professional service to the university, profession, and community; and perform other tasks as assigned.
We seek individuals with an capability to engage in research and scholarly activities as evidenced by publication in refereed journals and a focused research plan with potential for external funding. We also seek candidates with teaching practice or demonstrated potential for success in teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses, with proficiency in one or more of the aforementioned areas of GIS and/or BDA. Preference will be given to candidates who have: a) an established record of research and scholarly activity, b) previous environmental and/or occupational health practice, c) previous teaching practice, d) professional association involvement, and e) a record of community engagement. Research and/or teaching practice in BDA and GIS technology is highly preferred.

Minimum Education/practice
candidates must hold an earned doctorate degree in environmental health, occupational health or a closely related field and must be conferred and received from an appropriately accredited institution. Candidates with Ph.D. conferred at the time of initial appointment will hold the rank of adjunct Professor upon initial appointment. Candidates who have completed all but their dissertation (ABD) will be initially appointed with the probationary term rank of adjunct Professor and must have the terminal degree conferred prior to their first reappointment.
