Description: The Editorial Services Department is responsible for editing brochures, mailers, newsletters, invitations, and posters, as well as larger publications such as magazines, journals and course catalogs. The Director of Editorial Services and Associate Editor work closely with clients and with the graphic artists in Creative Services to ensure that Hofstra's message and mission are best communicated in print. Approximately 1,400 printed pieces are edited annually, both as Word documents and designed publications.

Working under the direction of the Director of Editorial Services, the Associate Editor edits text content as part of the Creative Services process. This includes, but is not limited to, editing Word files (using the track changes function) and printed layouts. The Associate Editor is expected to edit for grammar and spelling; suggest revisions, such as changing words or rearranging sentences to improve clarity; verify facts and Hofstra statistics; and work to ensure consistency in all Hofstra publications by applying Hofstra standards and connected Press Stylebook guidelines.

Appropriate qualifications: Bachelor's degree required, preferably in English, journalism or communication. Must possess excellent writing expertise, an knowledge of standard copyediting practices and keen attention to detail; be able to take direction, exercise good judgment, and communicate with all members of the Hofstra community; and have the capacity to study and recall with accuracy general Hofstra statistics that often appear in print. The associate editor must be able to work side by side with the editorial director.
