Piedmont Environmental Alliance seeks a highly-motivated and energetic program coordinator to develop and implement education and advocacy programming, recruit and manage volunteers and community partners, and help lead the organization’s efforts to build a more sustainable community.

Piedmont Environmental Alliance (PEA) educates and empowers, builds community, and inspires action to create a healthier, more economically vibrant, and environmentally sustainable community. located in Winston-Salem, NC, we focus on environmental education, community events, and local advocacy to build the leadership abilities to achieve increased environmental consciousness and sustaincapability practice.

PEA’s innovative education programs – Energy Explorers, Every Drop Counts, and Environmental Debate – reach more than 3,500 students in 150+ Title 1 classroom in Winston Salem/Forsyth County Schools annually, teaching students vital lessons in math and science, and nurturing the next generation of citizen environmentalists. We engage 8,000 people from around the Triad annually at our signature event, the Piedmont Earth Day Fair, and support other local events that create a more sustainable community. Our Community Engagement Program works with leaders in local neighborhoods to implement small-scale environmental projects. We are always seeking new ways to build a more sustainable community through partnerships and programs.

Manage all aspects of PEA’s in-classroom education programs: teaching, updating the curricula, recruiting and managing volunteers, and tracking key performance indicators.
Coordinate PEA’s Annual Environmental Debate Tournament for High School Students: conducting outreach to teachers and students, developing written materials, coordinating day-of logistics.
Develop new programming in line with organizational strategy, including new activities for students, multi-generational educational programming, neighborhood sustaincapability projects, and/or local environmental campaigns.
Recruit, train and manage volunteers and committees to support programs.
Maintain and strengthen key partnerships to ensure continued program success, expand impact and audience, create funding opportunities, and build the volunteer pipeline.
Collect and analyze key performance indicators for programs and make recommendations located on specific metrics.
Support key PEA events, including the Piedmont Earth Day Fair.
Support the Executive Director in fundraising efforts by identifying funding opportunities and providing program content and photos as needed.
Collaborate with the Marketing & Membership Coordinator to engage members and communicate the impact of programs.
Performs other tasks as assigned.
You are passionate about building a more environmentally sustainable community and believe in a strategic, people-centered approach to creating change.
You are a natural relationship-builder and enjoy connecting with, collaborating with, and coordinating people of all ages and backgrounds.
You possess superior organizational and time-management expertise and are comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously.
You are a dynamic speaker, capable of inspiring audiences of various sizes and ages.
You love working with students to help them more deeply understand and connect with issues related to environmental sustaincapability and leadership abilities.
You are a polished writer, with a knack for direct, clear, and friendly communication.
You have a Bachelor’s Degree or higher, and a minimum of three years of practice working in education and/or program coordination.
income / Compensation
This is a part-time position for 25 hours per week (with potential for additional hours as resources allow). The income range is $17,000 – $24,000 /annually, depending on hours and commensurate with practice. Benefits include paid time off and a flexible work schedule.
