We are seeking for a highly motivated, competent individual for a full-time research lab technician intermediate position in a basic research laboratory housed in the Department of Biological Chemistry at the University of Michigan Medical School. The applicant will participate in general laboratory maintenance along with at least 75% of their time on research appropriate for his/her training level. He/she will work closely with the principle investigator and senior laboratory scientist on research that is focused on the molecular mechanism of CRISPR-Cas systems and the application of CRISPR in human cell genome engineering. Contributions to the research projects will result in co-authorship on publications from the lab.
The candidate will have a number of responsibilities listed below. Prior training in at least some of these areas is required; the rest can be developed through instruction and practice.
Plasmid cloning and other molecular biology experiments.
Preparing liquid culture media, agar plates, and general solutions, dishwashing and autoclaving.
Culturing bacteria and genetically manipulating these organisms.
Expressing and purifying proteins, or using in vitro approaches to study enzyme functions.
The ideal candidate will have the capability to read scientific literature and discern significant information, allowing an intellectual contribution along with their technical research work.
HS Diploma or Associate Degree with at least 1-3 years practice in a laboratory setting, working closely with other senior researchers. Bachelor's Degree in Biology or a related discipline preferred. Accurate record-keeping is essential along with the capability to communicate, interact, and work closely with others. Prior practice in molecular biology (e.g. plasmid construction, DNA purification, NGS library construction, PCR, and etc.) is highly preferred. The prosperous applicant will be a motivated, ambitious person looking to advance their training in a research setting.
Bachelor or Master Degree in Biology, or related field with 1+ years of experimental laboratory research practice. Demonstrate practice training and mentoring undergraduate students.
