Summary of tasks and Responsibilities
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the College of English at Iowa State University are seeking qualified candidates for an Academic Adviser I or II position to advise students in majors within the English Program.
This position will provide individual advising to students, serve the international student population, teach orientation and career courses, assist with student recruitment efforts, report on undergraduate statistics, and connect students to appropriate university resources as needed.
In addition to the tasks above, the Academic Adviser II position will have expanded program development responsibilities.
The prosperous candidate will possess a strong commitment to student success, strong written and verbal communication expertise, and the capability to resolve complex issues. In addition, the prosperous candidate will also have the capability to work with diverse populations including students, parents, faculty, staff, high school and community college counselors and advisers.

Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related practice.
Supplemental Required Education and practice
The above requirements are for the Academic Adviser I.
Academic Adviser II: Bachelor's degree and 5 years of related practice; OR a Master's degree and 3 years of related practice
Preferred Education and practice
- Master's degree in linguistics, counseling, or higher education.
- Additional years of academic advising practice.

- practice teaching linguistics courses.
- PhD in linguistics or related field
