Position Summary:
The Southern District is seeking applications for an adjunct Professor or Associate Professor for the Agriculture/Horticulture discipline. The Extension Educator will provide leadership abilities for county, multi-county, and district Agriculture/Horticulture programs. They will assist in university outreach where appropriate. The Educator will plan, develop, implement, evaluate and report Extension programs that may include cropping systems, forage production, farm management and agricultural economics, soil and nutrient management, weed and pest identification and management, irrigation, water quality, commercial and consumer horticulture, small acreage stewardship and connected community development (60%). The Educator will be required to organize, facilitate and conduct a multi-county Extension Master Gardener program - recruiting, training, supporting and supervising volunteers in appropriate activities (20%). The Educator will provide supervision and support for the county 4-H Youth Development program (10%, Washington County funds a full time 4-H Program Coordinator who conducts county 4-H club programs) and serve as administrative chair of the Washington County Extension Office (10%).
Scholarship & Creative Activities - 5%: Recruit external funding and develop partnerships that support and enhance county and district educational programs and research projects and publish results in appropriate scholarly outlets.
Outreach & Extension - 80%: Collaborate with area growers, governmental agencies and University of Idaho faculty to enhance and expand programming. With direction from local advisory committees, develop and facilitate collaborative educational programs that meet clientele needs (e.g. pesticide applicator license certification training, applied demonstration and variety trials, educational classes, tours, workshops for commercial, hobby and/or homeowner clientele). Provide technical support for the

4-H Youth Development program, and supervision and support for the 4-H Youth Development Program Coordinator and other office staff in Washington County. Programs will be delivered through classes, workshops, volunteer training sessions, and other methods as appropriate. Prepare articles for local and regional newspapers and farm magazines. Participate in, or provide information for, radio and TV programs upon request.
University Service & leadership abilities - 15%: Serve as chair of the Washington County Extension Office, supervising staff, meeting with commissioners, negotiating and managing the Extension office budget and marketing UI Extension to local stakeholders. Serve on University, College, Extension, district and community committees, boards and working groups as appropriate.

Minimum Appropriate qualifications:

Masters degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Plant Science, Horticulture, Adult Education, Agriculture and Extension Education, Agriculture Economics, or a closely related discipline (the required degree(s) must be completed by the date of hire).
capability to adapt research materials for effective oral and written presentations.
capability to provide organizational structure and support for a variety of individuals and groups.
capability to recruit, teach, organize, and manage volunteer groups.
Willing and able to travel and adjust to a flexible schedule (i.e. participate in evening and weekend programs.)
capability to meet the requirements for rank of adjunct or Associate Professor at the time of hire.

Preferred Appropriate qualifications:

At least 3 years of practice in agriculture/horticulture (significant practice acquired within the last 5 years preferred).
capability to work well in a team and provide effective instruction, support, marketing and promotion for Extension programs.
Computer literacy and good written and verbal communication expertise.
practice in hiring and supervising office staff.
expertise of Hispanic culture and capability to speak/read Spanish.
