Organization Summary:

Joyce Preschool is a bilingual Spanish-English preschool in Minneapolis that provides developmentally and culturally appropriate preparation for success in school and lifelong learning to children and families from diverse ethnic, linguistic and economic backgrounds.
 
The program uses an intense literacy focus and an emphasis on full-family participation to ensure kindergarten-readiness, and balances the classroom linguistically and culturally to provide a dual immersion environment that affirms all students. More than half the students require scholarship assistance to attend, which Joyce funds on a sliding-fee scale to ensure students are given equal access to preschool regardless of their families’ economic means.

Primary tasks:

The Development and Communications Director works alongside the Executive Director and Board of Directors to plan, execute, and measure the success of fundraising efforts, as well as planning and superviseing internal and external communications.
Management & Supervision (10%) — supervise, support, and supervise the development and communications team, including the grants agent, individual gifts agent, and communications support staff. As requested by the organization’s leadership abilities team, provide trainings, recommendations, and/or input in key decisions.
Development — Develop and drive implementation of comprehensive strategic multi-year development plan. Work with executive director and board to identify development goals, measurement tools, and tactics to support the school’s strategic plan. Develop work plan and manage day-to-day development efforts, including:
   » Grants (25%) — Seek grant funding from new and existing sources to meet or exceed grant goals. Research funders and develop relationships; create timelines and proposals/letters of inquiry; work with executive director and grants agent to complete and track grant applications and reports. 
   » Individual Donors (10%) — Cultivate new donors and increase donations from existing donors through events, solicitations, and development of major gifts program.
-- Work with board and donor relations staff to identify prospects, build relationships, and cultivate current and new donor relationships. 
-- Analyze, maintain, and improve donor cultivation capacity at Joyce, including data tracking.
-- supervise implementation of donor communications strategy designed to strengthen connections to school (e.g. newsletters, event updates, online giving opportunities such as GiveMN, etc.).  
-- Develop parent education and engagement activities leading to increased parent participation in fundraising.
-- Coordinate donor cultivation activities such as fundraising breakfasts, mission nights, gala fundraisers, peer-to-peer fundraising, etc.
   » Business Sponsorships (10%) — Research, network with, and develop relationships with new and existing sponsors. Coordinate efforts of event committees to meet or exceed goals for event sponsorships and develop systems for maintaining relationships with sponsors/potential sponsors.
   » Events (25%) — Develop and implement organizational vision and annual plan for fundraising events. Alongside the Fundraising Chair, lead the Fundraising Committee of the board in planning and execution of special events including event budgeting, cost-benefit (ROI) analysis, developing marketing and presentation materials, and planning program components. Participate in events with an emphasis on networking, building relationships, and cultivating current and potential supporters.
   » Faith Community Support (<5%) — supervise the development team’s work in maintaining strong relationships and contributions from the faith community.
   » Financial reporting (<5%) — Alongside the organization’s accounting function and executive director, ensure that fundraising and accounting reports align. Ensure all development-related financials are in the database. Prepare reports for board of directors meetings to keep board apprised of progress.
 
Communications (15%) — Develop and drive implementation of comprehensive strategic communications plan. Work with executive director to identify communications goals and tactics to support the school’s strategic plan; develop work plan and manage day-to-day communications efforts, including:
   » Program Marketing — supervise the production and distribution of Joyce Preschool marketing materials, including brochures, registration materials for preschool and other programs, and annual report.
   » Website & Content Marketing — supervise creation and maintenance of timely, significant content as well as Wordpress site structural revisions and new additions. Ensure web presence reflects the quality, positivity, and multiculturalism of Joyce’s program. As part of overall organizational growth and recruitment, manage content marketing portfolio and strategy, including blog content, pitch letters, and outreach to publications.
   » Social Media and Email — supervise regular posting and networking efforts for Facebook, Twitter, and other networks as applicable; develop Social Media Policy guides for staff; engage staff in drafting and posting content. Coordinate constituent newsletters as necessary (electronic newsletters and event emails, all-school newsletters, donor newsletter, etc.).
   » Copywriting and Quality Control — Ensure all Joyce communications materials present consistent, high-quality, mission-significant messaging and branding. (Print materials, web-located, presentations, etc.)

Required Appropriate qualifications:
   » Exceptional written and oral communication expertise, including practice with grant writing, web content, social media (particularly managing content on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn), creating presentations, and other formal and informal professional communications. 
   » Demonstrated practice working with diverse populations and multiple cultures. 
   » Demonstrated success in building relationships and coordinating the work of others to meet organizational goals. 
   » practice with and expertise of fundraising and communications best practices; 3-5 years of practice in nonprofit fund development and/or communications planning and implementation.
   » practice with eTapestry or other CRM software 
   » Working expertise of WordPress 
   » Working expertise of MailChimp 
Preferred Appropriate qualifications:
   » Bilingual (English and Spanish) including strong written and oral communication expertise
   » practice working with the Latino community in Minneapolis 
   » practice with donor cultivation and board/committee engagement in fundraising 
   » managery practice
