The Germanic Studies Department and the Humanities Collegiate Division at the University of Chicago are accepting applications for a part-time benefits-eligible Lecturer in German language, for a one-year, non-renewable, term, starting January 1, 2019. The lecturer will teach in the German language program and coordinate all aspects of the First-Year sequence (inclusive of the first-year Intensive sequence).A Masters degree in a significant field is required; a PhD is preferred. candidates must have practice teaching multiple levels of German language at a college or post- secondary institution and demonstrated practice in language pedagogy. German language proficiency at the ACTFL Advanced High level required. practice teaching at a North American university preferred.The teaching load will include four courses in beginning and intermediate German over three quarters per academic year, as well as the coordination of the courses in the first-year and intensive-sequence curriculum.candidates must apply online at the University's Academic Career Opportunities website, https://academiccareers.uchicago.edu, select requisition #03946, and upload a current curriculum vitae; a cover letter of no more than three pages in length that addresses professional and teaching practice and discusses approaches to pedagogy; and the names and contact information of three references whose recommendation letters will be solicited automatically by the Academic Career Opportunities application system.Application deadline for all required materials and reference letters is November 19, 2018.
