Primary tasks:

Purpose:  Provide outreach and facilitate advocacy workshops for parents of school age children that cover topics including school system culture, parent involvement and child development; engage community partners in program development, implementation and evaluation.

Parent Empowerment Program Leader tasks include:
Work with the Community Engagement Specialist and Administrative Director to implement culturally significant parent advocacy training workshops to educate immigrant and refugee parents on the U.S. school system and how to support their children in achieving academic success
Participate in collecting and analyzing program data and providing reports to funders; participate in program evaluation planning and implementation
Develop new supportive community partnerships
Work with Program Outreach adjunct to develop and implement community outreach strategies to engage larger numbers of parents
Plan and facilitate community workshops for educators and other professionals focused on cultural knowledge and orientation, best practices for engaging immigrant/refugee families in health and education services
Contribute to organizational strategic planning, funding proposals and other development activities


Preferred qualifications and practice:
practice with workshop facilitation and parent engagement;
Knowledge of US school system culture and child development;
Demonstrated commitment to advocacy efforts on behalf of Somali students, parents, families;
capability to work independently, keep accurate and confidential program records, meet deadlines;
Bilingual English and Somali
