Primary Purpose of Department
The Department of Psychological Science is an academic community of teacher/scholars and doctoral, master's, and undergraduate students that is engaged in advancing the discovery, dissemination, and application of expertise in traditional areas of Psychology in general and applied areas of Psychology in particular. The Department of Psychological Science seeks to provide quality undergraduate education and to attain national and international recognition for research and graduate training in Health Psychology and Organizational Sciences.

Description of Work
Responsible for the everyday operation of the department and the department programs. The Department Chair/ Director will promote excellence in department programs within the University. Chair/ Director responsibilities are classified as professional tasks requiring leadership abilities and mentoring of faculty, administrative skills to include vision, long term and short-term planning, decision-making and coordination of instruction.
Essential tasks and Responsibilities
The University of North Carolina at Charlotte invites applications for the position of Chair in the Department of Psychological Sciences starting July 1, 2019. The position is open to candidates who currently hold a tenured position within the department and a Ph.D. in Psychology or a related field. Any research specialty within Psychology is acceptable.
Candidates should possess skills in academic leadership abilities and be committed to promoting a culture that values teaching, scholarly research, community engagement, and external funding activity. The candidate should also show evidence of commitment to diversity as a value within the department, college, and university.
The department Chair works cooperatively with the Associate Chair, Directors of the Ph.D. programs, the Director of Clinical Training, and Coordinators of the two M.A. programs. The Chair is also responsible for managing the departmental budget and faculty resources, including personnel review procedures as well as superviseing staffing and course scheduling. The Chair provides leadership abilities in developing and fulfilling the Department's mission and strategic plan and advancing the department's instructional and research missions. The Chair represents the department and serves as its liaison with other University administrative units while also making connections that tie the department to regional, national, and international professional organizations. In addition to these tasks, the Chair will be expected to focus particularly on accelerating department grant activity and fostering engagement with the community.
Minimum practice/Education
UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

Previous leadership abilities and administrative practice is desired.
