Organization Summary:

Ronald McDonald House Charities, Upper Midwest – in partnership with our community – provides a comfortable and caring home-away-from-home that supports keeping families together and reduces stress during a child’s serious illness. RMHC-UM operates four locations across the Twin Cities, serving over 5,400 families a year, providing 71 overnight rooms, meals and activities for families with children facing a life-threatening illness.

Hours: This is an exempt, full-time position and hours of work are generally Monday through Friday and occasional weekends and evenings. 
 

Primary tasks:

The Volunteer Program Manager is responsible for the oversight and management of all aspects of the Volunteer Department to ensure effective utilization of volunteerism across the organization. 
Primary Job responsibilities:                      
Program Management and Supervision:
   » A key organizational leader who will engage volunteerism all over the organization in support of RMHC-UM’s mission and strategic goals. Work effectively with all departments to ensure needs for volunteerism are met and quality positions are developed, managed and evaluated. supervise the recruitment, screening, placement and onboarding processes for volunteers and interns. Manages key  stewardship (solicited and unsolicited) of volunteers all over the organization.
   » Lead efforts to continuously review and evaluate current volunteer needs, volunteer satisfaction and recommend and implement changes as necessary to address new or emerging needs and ensure best practices. 
   » Manage department record keeping, reporting and communications for volunteer department. 
   » Work with manager to establish and execute operational policies and practices for volunteerism and ensure compliance by staff and volunteers. Aid in executing training programs for staff managers of volunteers and new staff. Supervises volunteer recognition efforts across the organization. 
   » Prepare an annual report on the contribution of the volunteer program to the organization.
Collaboration with Internal Teams:
   » Establish and maintain good working relationships with all RMHC-UM staff particularly Program Teams at each location. Work with staff at each location to identify and meet volunteer needs.  Work collaboratively with the Development Team members to manage volunteer recruitment, training and retention all over RMHC-UM signature events needs.
   » Work to develop and implement annual plans for corporate engagement. Proactively identify and recruit new potential corporate partners. Identify methods to encourage the cultivation of volunteers into donors. 
   » Work to provide volunteers for community events.  
Community Relationships
   » Cultivate and develop new volunteer and intern audiences for RMHC-UM.  Execute strategies to utilize and strengthen external relationships. 
   » Through participation, represent RMHC-UM at various community groups to improve expertise and stay on top of current trends in the field while increasing visibility for organization.

practice:

The ideal candidate will have the following Appropriate qualifications:
   » 4 year college degree
   » 5 years practice in non-profit working with volunteers, development and programs
   » Development/Fundraising/Stewardship practice strongly preferred 
   » practice working with Twin Cities corporate and civic communities
   » Management or managery practice a plus
   » expertise of current trends, resources and information related to volunteerism
   » Demonstrated practice with non-profit board of directors, lead volunteers, donors and senior staff.
   » capability to develop an organizational plan, execute on the plan and measure results.
   » Prior practice working in a fast-paced environment and multi-tasking effectively.
   » Computer proficiency including practice with Excel spreadsheets, Microsoft Office, a donor data base. Raiser’s Edge NXT, VolunteerHub practice preferred.
   » Comfort and interest in public speaking
   » Maintaining professional boundaries and self care in an emotionally difficult position
   » Commitment to the mission of RMHC-UM

   » capability to work in a fluid environment with unexpected variations all over the workday
   » capability to manage details, organize, prioritize
