Job location:
seattle, Washington

Full Time - practiced

Required suitable education

The lab of Dr. Joshua Thaler ( oratory) in the Division of Metabolism, Endocrinology, and Nutrition at the University of Washington seeks a postdoctoral fellow for research on CNS regulation of body weight and glucose homeostasis.
Our lab was among the first to describe the process of hypothalamic gliosis that occurs in obese rodents and humans (JCI 2012 v122 p153). Potential projects will be selected from continuing research areas including determining the functional contribution of microglia and astrocytes to obesity and diabetes pathogenesis and identifying pathways that govern the crosstalk between glia and neurons that regulate energy balance. The candidate will also participate in our program of developing glial cell tools including chemogenetic, optogenetic, cell transfer, and transcriptomics studies.
We are pursuing a qualified postdoctoral fellow (Ph.D. and/or M.D. required) to begin as soon as possible. Ideally, the candidate will have a strong background in neuroscience, immunology, molecular biology, or stem cell biology. As this postdoctoral position is funded through an NIH institutional training grant, we can only consider candidates who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents (i.e. green card holders).
The University of Washington is an outstanding venue for metabolism research with an NIH-funded Nutrition and Obesity Research Center (NORC) and Diabetes Research Center (DRC). The lab is contained within the UW Diabetes Institute, which includes members working on many different aspects of metabolism, physiology, and pathophysiology.

To apply, please email a letter of interest and a CV that includes potential references to Dr. Thaler (E-Mail: University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. University of Washington is an affirmative action and equal opportunity employer. All qualified candidates will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, national origin, age, protected veteran or disabled status, or genetic information.
