HEART/LUNG/MECHANICAL CIRCULATORY SUPPORT FELLOWSHIP
DEPARTMENT OF SURGERY, DIVISION OF CARDIAC SURGERY
UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND SCHOOL OF MEDICINE

The Division of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is seeking a board-eligible/certified physician for our Heart/Lung/Mechanical Circulatory Support Fellowship program.

Comprehensive practice will be gained in:
   » Lung transplantation, including ex-vivo lung perfusion
   » Heart Transplantation
   » Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation
   » Acute Chronic Pulmonary Embolectomy
   » Advanced Training in Pulmonary Thromboendarterectomy
   » Minimally Invasive Ventricular Assist Device Implantation

The University of Maryland has an active multidisciplinary heart and lung failure program, and the fellow will play a central function in preoperative evaluation, intraoperative surgical and interventional care, and postoperative management of all patients. The Division's Lung Healing Program supported more than 200 patients on ECMO in 2017.

Clinical research will form an integral part of the practice. The Division's Clinical Research Unit has over 40 actively enrolling prospective trials. The Heart/Lung/Mechanical Circulatory support surgery fellow will have teaching tasks that include instruction of students and residents. Individuals who have completed an accredited training program in cardiothoracic surgery, and who are eligible for licensure in the state of Maryland are eligible to apply. The fellowship will be at the Clinical Instructor level at a competitive income.
