Regional Student Services (Hamilton Campus): Advisor and Distance Coordinator to serve as professional advisor primarily dedicated to recruiting, orienting, and advising students in the Small Business Management major. Representing Miami’s Commerce program at partner community colleges through student advising and transfer fairs. Work with community colleges where Commerce transfer agreements exist, and in particular the advising staffs at these colleges; regularly meet with advising and other key personnel at these colleges, represent Miami at College Fairs at partner community colleges by presenting information about the major to prospective students and their families; providing accurate and current curricular information for admitted students in majors within Commerce, including new, transfer and continuing students; assisting in academic planning and connecting advisees to appropriate university resources for both on-campus and e-campus students; offering targeted academic advising outreach for Commerce majors who take only online courses, and for those on partner Ohio campuses, maintaining regular contact with partner community colleges advisors; facilitating academic intervention outreach efforts for at-risk Commerce students on academic probation and warning, and also provide mid-term grade outreach, focused on retention and improved academic standing; assisting with the academic petition process for transfer credits and academic actions; collaborating, supporting, and participating in recruitment and retention initiatives, which include, but are not limited to: the Office of Admission during campus visit programs, Career Services and Professional Development, providing academic advising during Orientations (May-Aug and Dec-Jan), serving as an advising resource for Commerce faculty, teaching a first-year practice course, UNV 101: I am Miami; other tasks as assigned by the Director of Advising or Chair of the Commerce Department.

Require: Master’s degree must be earned by the start date. At least 1-year practice, post baccalaureate, in academic advising and/or related student development programs in a university or community college setting. significant practice gained during a graduate program may also apply. Must have a high level of organizational and self-starting expertise. Must demonstrate commitment to working with students from diverse backgrounds, both domestic and international. Excellent written and oral communication (including public speaking), interpersonal, collaborative expertise, and technological expertise. Requires an capability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty and staff. Valid driver’s license and automobile for reliable transportation, capability to lift 10-30 pounds of advising materials for campus visits.Position is not eligible for H-1B sponsorship. Desire: Master’s degree preferred in student affairs, higher education, college student personnel, counseling, business, or related field; practice advising or working in a related field; an knowledge of transfer credits and articulation agreements, student development theory and an knowledge of the purpose and advantages of a liberal arts education; practice with customer relations, working with community colleges and/or community-located organizations, and business/industry officials. Familiarity with advising tools such as DARS,, EAB SSC-Campus, and SCT Banner.
