Position Overview :
The Nurse Anesthesia Associate Program Director is a CRNA with an appropriate graduate degree who by position, responsibility, and authority actively assists the program director in the organization and administration of the entire nurse anesthesia option. The Associate program director must be qualified to assume the responsibilities of the program director, if required.

1. leadership abilities: In concert with the program director, provides leadership abilities for the nurse anesthesia program.
2. Program development: Assist in the oversight of the organization of the educational program, ensuring compliance with the standards of the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia educational programs.
3. Planning: Contributes to the development and implementation of a programmatic strategic plan. Has input into the recruitment, hiring and evaluation of program faculty.
4. Scholarship and service: Maintains a record of scholarship and service as well as teach in their areas of skills. Fulfills the criteria specific to their academic rank.
Additional function-Specific Competencies:
Participates in faculty practice; in collaboration with the program director and the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs, facilitates the assignment of all nurse anesthesia program faculty teaching loads for each term. Contributes service as a committee member or chair to the university and professional organizations, to include all of the following:
   » Fulfills all requirements of assigned academic rank.
   » Maintains certification/recertification as a CRNA.
   » Serves as a resource for students and faculty.
   » Participates in review of evaluation to data and use of these data to effect change where necessary.
   » Assumes authority and responsibility for nurse anesthesia program activities in the absence of the program director.
   » Delegates administrative elements to other faculty and the administrative adjunct as needed.
   » Participates in the recruitment of high quality students with the capability to succeed within the curriculum.
   » Maintains accuracy and confidentiality of student records and evaluations.
   » Participates in the preparation of accurate and representative informational materials with respect to the program for dissemination to candidates, students, faculty and the public.
   » Assists in the preparation of and provide input to a budget for the program which supports academic quality.
   » Ensures that policies and procedures with the program are administered in a fair and equitable manner.
   » In collaboration with the program director, maintain elements of the program so that national accreditation is maintained.
   » Provides references and clinical privilege information for current and past students as requested.
   » Develops goals and strategies to continuously improve the quality of the program.
   » Interacts appropriately and in a timely manner with the Council on Accreditation for Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs and the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists.
The Associate program director reports to the program director for all academic-related functions of this position.
Required expertise, Skills, and Abilities:
Minimum requirements include: graduate degree in nursing and earned doctorate in nursing or related field from an institution of higher education accredited by a national recognized accrediting agency; current RN and/or APRN licensure in current state of residence with eligibility for Wisconsin licensure; full certification or recertification as granted by NBCRNA; and active nurse anesthesia clinical practice.
Preferred expertise, Skills, and Abilities:
Instruction in curriculum, assessment and instruction methods will be required prior to starting a faculty position.
Prior practice with nurse anesthesia educational program administration preferred.
