Position: Major Gifts/ Donor Relations Manager
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday
Evening and weekend work is sometimes required in this position.
Flexible scheduling and some overtime may be requested.
Direct Report: The position reports directly to the Development Director.
Compensation: Negotiable depending on practice.
Supervision: This position reports directly to the Development Director.
Helena Food Share Mission: Helena Food Share serves our neighbors in need by providing food in a respectful and dignified way and by working with others to eliminate hunger in the greater Helena area.
Summary
The Donor Relations Manager is responsible for guiding a well-established individual donor program at Helena Food Share. Helena Food Share’s funding base is largely individual donors, and this position will help shepherd over 2,500 active annual donors. Implementing a donor-centric approach, the Donor Relations Manager is expected to implement a major gifts program that includes managing a major donor portfolio, identifying major donor prospects, current donor-upgrading, solicitations, cultivation, and stewardship. The Donor Relations Manager is part of a development team dedicated to eliminating hunger in Helena and reports directly to the Development Director.
Responsibilities
Major Gifts Program Management
   » Build a major gifts program in coordination with the Development Director that includes a strategy for:
   » Identifying new major donor prospects,
   » Effective donor stewardship and cultivation,
   » Gift solicitations for acquiring new donors and upgrading current donors;
   » Identifying measurable financial and prospect metrics relative to goals set forth in the annual development plan.
   » Implement the major gifts program.
   » Manage major donor portfolios by creating individual gift strategies, preparing proposals, and identifying appropriate cultivation, and engagement opportunities.
   » Actively solicit major gifts to reach and exceed annual development goals.
   » Invite donors into planned giving opportunities when appropriate.
   » Work with the Development Director and Executive Director on the implementation and management of a Capital Campaign.
Donor Cultivation and Stewardship
   » Ensure timely and significant gift acknowledgement.
   » Extract and analyze detailed reports from our donor management system (Bloomerang).
   » Promote and grow the “Hunger Hero” monthly donor program to achieve annual goals. Includes logistics of payment processing, unique acknowledgement opportunities, end-of-year tax receipts, and cultivation strategies.
   » Establish and maintain a schedule of cultivation meetings to maintain and strengthen donor interaction with Helena Food Share.
   » Identify opportunities for donor cultivation and recognition.
Perform other tasks as assigned.
Requirements

   » Demonstrated practice and confidence asking people to contribute time and money;
   » Knowledge and knowledge of the nature and dimensions of philanthropy, fundraising ethics, motivations for giving and volunteering, research and cultivation practices, and face-to-face solicitations;
   » Be organized, flexible, and creative;
   » Excel at self-directing, self-pacing, organizing and prioritizing workloads;
   » Must have professional office expertise: proficient at Microsoft Office suite programs including Excel, Word and Power Point, capability to lgain and navigate donor management system;
   » Goal oriented;
   » Work independently, and as a part of a team that knows how to have fun, and thrive with a high volume of deadline driven tasks;
   » capability to work in a busy, ever-changing environment with continuing distractions.
Minimum Education, practice and Licensing Requirements
The knowledge, expertise and abilities needed for this position are typically acquired through a combination of education and practice equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree and at least 2 years of fundraising practice. The prosperous candidate will hold proven results and practice in individual donor development and gift solicitation. Other combinations of education and practice agency will be evaluated on an individual basis. Must have a valid driver’s license.
