Associate Chief Medical agent

The Queen's Medical Center is a nonprofit hospital with a 158-year legacy of caring for the people of Hawaii and the Pacific Basin. A member of The Queen’s Health Systems family of hospitals, The Queen’s Medical Center is the largest private hospital in Hawaii. Information technology is licensed for 505 acute and 28 sub-acute care beds. Located in downtown Honolulu, Queen’s serves as the major referral center for cancer, heart disease, neuroscience, orthopedics, surgery, emergency medicine and behavioral health, and has the only organ transplantation program in the State of Hawaii. Queen’s is also the state’s designated trauma center--the first and only Level I trauma center in Hawaii. A major teaching hospital, Queen’s serves as a clinical training site for the residency programs of the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine.

leadership abilities:
   » Works collaboratively with the Chief of Staff, Vice Chief of Staff and Department Chiefs to ensure appropriate management assistance, coordination and/or staff support are provided for effective performance of medico-administrative-operational responsibilities.
   » Works with the Vice President, Medical Staff Services/CQO and QMC Chief Medical agent (CMO) on matters relating to the Bylaws, Rules/Regulations, policies and accreditation requirements of the medical/dental staff.
   » Plans for and participates in the orientation program for new physicians.
   » Serves as a delegate for the Vice President, Medical Staff Services/CQO and QMC CMO when necessary and reports on those delegated activities. Helps with management and oversight of medical directors.
   » Has overall responsibility and accountcapability for the organization, administration, and management of assigned area(s) and/or functions.
   » Monitors and supervises the implementation of strategic/business plans and the attainment of desired objectives and results.
   » In conformity with organization policies and procedures, develops, implements, and ensures operations adhere to and/or comply with policies, standards, and operational guidelines for medical staff.
   » Develops effective reporting and communication systems within areas of responsibility and across the organization. Is an effective leader with a positive attitude and communicates in a manner that promotes teamwork and collaboration.
   » Serves on Credentialing, Peer Review and other committees where appropriate. Works closely with Risk Management Department in the investigation of any reported events.
   » Helps lead achievement of clinical results, length of stay, denial reduction strategies, referral management, quality results, documentation optimization, appropriate resource utilization, improved clinical results, care coordination across the system, and achieving best practice goals.
   » Reviews reports with clinical leaders and individual physicians to identify any barriers and improve processes to reach goals in quality, efficiency, patient practice, and other system goals.
   » Assures medical staff compliance with medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations, policies and procedures as they pertain to the clinical care delivery and coordination with inpatient care.
   » Reviews physician practice patterns, performance and resource utilization. Works with analytics team to develop and use actionable reports.

MIMIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
   » Graduate of an accredited School of Medicine or EC FMG certification.
   » Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Hawaii.
   » Board certified or board qualified in area of specialty. If board qualified, must obtain board certification within two (2) years of entrance into the position.
   » Master’s degree in business administration or related health care and/or professional field preferred.
   » During the period of employment, shall be and remain a member of the QMC medical staff in good standing with appropriate privileges without restriction.
   » Qualified for an appointment on the faculty of the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine.
   » Five (5) years clinical practice in area of specialty.
   » Five (5) years management/leadership abilities practice preferred.

In turn, the Legislature appropriated $6,000.Through six generations, The Queen's Medical Center has become a major provider of health care to the people of our State and a part of the cultural fabric of Hawaii.
