Summary/Objective

The HRBP performs human resources-related tasks at the professional level and may carry out responsibilities in some or all of the following functional areas: employee coaching and support, training and professional development, recruitment & employment, affirmative action/compliance and compensation.

The WAMU HRBP is a key strategic business partner to WAMU & AU leadership abilities by way of knowledge the media industry and our local economy. This requires the capability to discern the distinct operational and cultural differences between WAMU and AU, while maintaining a broader media industry perspective.

This is a temporary full time position for up to 6 months.

Work Environment
   »
Position reports to the WAMU Associate General Manager along with the adjunct Director, Finance and Administration, Director of Membership and the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis
   »
It has a dotted line relationship to American UniverisyHR and will work alongside WAMU's leadership abilities Team, including the General Manager
   »
Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job tasks demand

Required Education and practice
   » Bachelor's degree in human resource management or a related field or equivalent education, training and practice
   » Five years of practice in human resource generalist function
   » Deep knowledge of DC employment laws and regulations with the capability to identify situations they apply to, including when and how to consult with external legal counsel
   » Professional, adaptable and emotionally intelligent, with the capability to establish a high degree of trust with management and employees at all levels of the organization
   » Solid management expertise and broad practice coaching management at all levels
   » Strong written, oral and online communication expertise
   » Demonstrated use of such for professional development, research, networking and staying apprised of industry trends, issues significant to HR and the business, and changes to employment law
   » A self-starter, having the innate drive to constantly improve and the capability to drive change while gaining organizational buy-in
   » Tact and diplomacy are essential. Able to handle sensitive employee data and situations with discretion and professionalism
   » Comfort working with a highly collaborative, fast-paced and somewhat irreverent team. Must be able to rapidly respond to shifting priorities, pitching in when and where needed
   » Fully proficient with Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook. Somewhat proficient or willing to quickly lgain the basics of: AU's HRIS, social media, editing and other systems and online tools as necessary
   » Strong generalist background and hands-on practice with: employee relations issues at all levels, staffing/O.D. support, strategic leadership abilities coaching, Basic knowledge of benefits, payroll, compensation, safety and compliance

Preferred Education and practice
   » Master'sdegree in human resources or related field
   » SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) credential
   » Eight to ten years of human resource practice
