Medical Director - Pediatric Weight Management Program
Children's Hospital & Medical Center, with the University of Nebraska College of Medicine, is currently recruiting a Medical Director for our Pediatric Weight Management Program. The ideal candidate should be board certified/board eligible in Pediatrics and/or a pediatric sub-specialty (if applicable). Children's is a vibrant, free-standing pediatric teaching hospital and Nebraska's only full service pediatric specialty health care center focused on extraordinary clinical care, education, clinical and results research, and advocacy. The hospital is embarking on transformational programmatic and physical growth to address our local, regional, national and global patient care. The hospital has a Level IV Regional NICU, Level II Pediatric Trauma Center, Specialized Clinical Pediatric Services, and 24/7 Pediatric Intensivists. We have 50+ Specialty Clinics, 200+ Specialists, 14 Satellite Offices, multiple Pediatric Fellowship programs, and is Magnet Certified. Our new campus expansion plans include an additional 100 beds to the existing 145, expansion to the Newborn Intensive Care Unit, Fetal Care Center and Fetal Surgery, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Cardiac Center including dedicated intensive care, Short-Stay Observation Unit, Emergency Department, and Surgical Services. The expansion will also provide new facilities to support education and clinical and results research.
This is an exciting opportunity for a physician, with a passion to work with children and their families, to help with weight management issues. The program consists of a multi-disciplinary team, along with the outreach and education efforts focused on the medical avoidance, treatment, and knowledge health risks, of obesity. The HEROES (Healthy Eating with Resources, Options, and Everyday Strategies) Weight Management Program is dedicated to treating weight gain and weight-related health risks in children. HEROES is the only medically managed program of its kind in the Omaha area.
The Medical Director will lead this team and help plan and direct the program to develop public consciousness, knowledge, interest, and knowledge. You will interact with the general community, multiple pediatric specialties, and hospital leadership abilities to share and promote information regarding the weight management program. The HEROES team focuses on developing a healthy diet, exercise, and behavioral plan. Our multi-disciplinary approach includes overall nutrition status evaluation and planning, behavior modification counseling, baseline fitness assessment and activity guidance, assistance in identifying barriers to success and support to overcome them, assessment, lab monitoring, medical management and collaboration with our pediatricians and pediatric specialists, and exclusive access to our fitness and education program.
We partner with the adult bariatric surgery program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). During every operation, there is both an adult and pediatric bariatric surgeon. This provides patients with the skills of multiple surgeons with different backgrounds. Information technology also allows for an easy transition into an adult program when our patients age out of pediatric care. The bariatric surgery program is part of our HEROES Weight Management Program. Patients try at least 6 months of lifestyle changes through the HEROES program before they can opt for bariatric surgery. Our faculty and providers actively participate in research and clinical trials. This means we are aware of the latest advances in childhood obesity and bariatric surgery, and can integrate these advances into our care. Areas of research include: obesity and early antibiotic use, mother and child health results after maternal bariatric surgery, use of shared decision making for bariatric surgery in pediatric weight management programs, managing expectations in pediatric weight management, and results of the HEROES weight management program.
