Essential Functions
The Science Laboratory Coordinator/Instructor of Biology will be responsible for maintaining biology laboratories, as assigned, for safe and effective teaching and learning, and assisting with inventorying and storing necessary instructional supplies and materials for science courses. Instructional responsibilities will be 3 to 9 hours of biology instruction per week, as assigned located on enrollment and discipline/departmental needs, as well as substituting as needed for occasional instructional absences. The Science Laboratory Coordinator/Instructor of Biology will work closely with his or her Discipline Chair, the Science Laboratory Manager, and other faculty on matters related to and for the benefit of theASUTdepartment and its students. More specifically, and consistent with the terms and conditions of appointment as stipulated in the contract of employment, the Science Laboratory Coordinator/Instructor of Biology is accountable for the tasks listed below:
Job tasks
Science Laboratory Coordinator
1. Ensure that all assigned science laboratories are adequately arranged, supplied, and equipped for timely, safe and effective teaching and learning;
2. Ensure that consumable and non-consumable instructional supplies and equipment required for laboratory procedures are procured and available for timely instruction;
3. Assist with the proper maintenance of laboratory equipment in assigned labs;
4. Ensure laboratory equipment and materials are properly autoclaved, when required;
5. Assist in maintaining inventories and other documents and records as required;
6. Attend training and other professional development opportunities on- or off-campus and stay current with developments in the field;
7. Assume responsibility for laboratory preparation, including minor maintenance and cleanup, and recommend, as necessary, appropriate laboratory supplies and equipment;
8. Assume other necessary responsibilities and perform additional tasks as assigned by the science lab manager, chair, department dean, chief instructional agent, or president, in meeting the needs of the department, division, and college;
9. Position requires summer work with supplemental contract added to base income.
Instructor of Biology
1. Teach all courses, as assigned, for the full duration of scheduled instruction, including seated, online, hybrid, academic success, and/or interdisciplinary capstone courses as needed at any of Durham Tech's instructional sites
2. Be fully prepared with a syllabus and instructional plans for each class session in accord with the stated objectives of the course
3. Enforce academic policy and procedures at all times, and comply with institutional rules and regulations
4. Maintain posted office and on-campus hours sufficient to fulfill all contracted tasks and individual professional obligations, as well as to meet the needs of the department, division, and college
5. Participate in discipline, departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings, committees, and other special appointments
6. Assist in the revision and development of course outlines, syllabi, curriculum plans, and other instructional documentation and in the identification, development, preview, and acquisition of educational resources and supplies required to meet program objectives and improve instruction
7. Maintain complete course and student records, reports, and forms
8. Attend training and other professional development opportunities on- or off-campus and stay current with developments in the field of instruction
9. Assume other necessary responsibilities and perform additional tasks as assigned by the chair, department dean, chief instructional agent, or president, in meeting the needs of the department, division, and college
10. Summer instruction is optional with supplemental contract added to base income
