General summary/purpose:
This individual will interact with investigators, collaborators, and patients in clinical research studies covering cognitive and psychosocial functioning in adults with medical conditions and healthy controls. S/he will recruit participants, administer brain stimulation and neuropsychological test batteries, collect and record data, establish and maintain a database, and perform statistical analyses.
Specific tasks/Job responsibilities:
Coordinate studies; develop study flyers and other recruitment materials; interact with clinicians and other gatekeepers to access patient populations; recruit and schedule research participants; administer and score neuropsychological tests; deliver brain stimulation via transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS); collect and record data; establish and maintain paper files and computerized databases; conduct library/literature searches; participate in weekly research group meetings; monitor and maintain supply of research materials and order as needed; meet regularly with Principal Investigator to review data accuracy and overall study progress; assists in preparation and management of JHM-IRB communications; analyze cognitive data using IBM SPSS 23.0 statistical analysis software. May schedule and conduct research MRI scans
Minimum Appropriate qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in psychology, neuroscience, or a closely related discipline with some related practice required; 1 year of practice in human subjects research preferred. Additional education may substitute for required practice and additional related practice may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of practice. Additional related practice may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/practice required for the respective job.
Special expertise, expertise, and abilities:
Strong interpersonal and communication expertise in order to carry out protocols with human volunteers, many of whom will be ill and some of whom will have cognitive disorders. capability to work independently and manage multiple tasks. Hard-working, self-motivated, highly-organized, detail-oriented, and precise. Must have excellent time management expertise and work well in a team setting. Must have excellent personal computer expertise and expertise of MS Office applications. Must have expertise of basic statistical analysis and SPSS software as well as basic expertise using MATLAB 9.0. capability to travel between the Johns Hopkins East Baltimore campus, Green Spring Station, and Sibley Memorial Hospital campus as needed.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide continuing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
