The Position:
Reporting to the adjunct Vice President for University Life, this position provides leadership abilities to a 6,500 bed university housing and residence life program that is distributed all over 40 campus residence halls, occupying approximately 2 million square feet of space over three campuses. The adjunct Dean is responsible for a $47 million budget and the supervision of 150 full-time staff and over 300 student staff members. This position also has division level responsibilities for living-learning community operations, housing operations at two regional campuses, and dean level student conduct and administrator on-call tasks. Mason's Housing and Residence Life is committed to providing a safe and well-maintained student centered environment that is innovative and inclusive of a global community. The adjunct Dean will be responsible for creating an environment where staff members are dedicated to creating a home that enriches the practices of students, staff, and faculty.

Appropriate qualifications:
Required qualifications include advanced degree (masters or doctoral) in higher education, student personnel, business, or an appropriate field; 15 years of progressively responsible university practice, at least five of those years should be at the housing director level; practice working in a comprehensive housing system that contains budget management, occupancy management, housekeeping/facilities, and residence life; excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication expertise; excellent problem-solving and analytical expertise; practice supervising a large and diverse team; practice managing critical incidents; strong capability to build and maintain collaborative partnerships across multiple constituencies. practice with public/private housing partnerships would be seen as advantageous.

George Mason University (GMU, Mason, or George Mason) is a public research university in Fairfax County, Virginia. Initially founded as a branch of the University of Virginia in 1949, Information technology became an independent institution in 1972. The university is named after the founding father, George Mason, a Virginia planter and politician who authored the Virginia Declaration of Rights. Mason currently operates four campuses located in Virginia, the main campus being in Fairfax, with another in Songdo, South Korea. Three of the four campuses in Virginia are within the Northern Virginia region of the Commonwealth, part of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. In 2016, the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education released its new listings including George Mason in the ?Highest Research Activity? (R1) category.
