This position is that of a civilian position assigned to the Naval Branch Health Clinic (NBHC), Groton, CT. The selectee is responsible for the practice of Pediatric medicine in the Primary Care Clinic, NBHC Groton and inpatient care where privileged at our partnership hospitals.

This announcement is being used to recruit qualified individuals, under the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Direct Hire Authority, authorized by 5 United States Code (U.S.C.), Section 3304 and 5 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 337, Subpart B. The Rule of Three, Veteran's Preference and traditional rating and ranking of candidates do not apply to the Direct Hire process.
Responsibilities -Perform examination, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases and injuries of children, including complex problems with exceptional family member status. -Treat pediatric patients presenting with acute or chronic illnesses. -Provide for all immunizations for the pediatric beneficiary population. -Manage well newborns, as well as caring for urgent/emergent cases. -Provide pediatric specialty duty coverage when assigned. -Participate on medical staff committees as required.

candidates must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: candidates must possess:
DEGREE: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada that is accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time my degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical expertise equivalent to accredited schools in the United States.
RESIDENCY: 3 years of residency training or equivalent practice and training in Pediatrics. Your resume must reflect you have a sufficient level of skills in Pediatrics to execute the core privileges of this position.
LICENSING: Active, permanent, full, unrestricted physician license to practice medicine in any state, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Satisfy BUMED clinical privileging requirements which, in addition to the above, includes the following:
-Completion of a Family Medicine residency approved by the American specialty board or AOA, board certification, or board eligible. -Current clinical competence (e.g., privileged to independently practice as a Pediatric Physician within the past 2 years, actively practiced within the past 2 years by having encountered a sufficient number of clinical cases to represent a broad spectrum of the privileges required). -No health status contraindications to granting clinical privileges. -Board certification is desired but not required. In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of practice at or equivalent to the GP-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent practice in the private or public sector. Specialized practice must demonstrate the following: perform examinations, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases and injuries of children, including complex problems with exceptional family member status.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: Possession of Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) Certifications. Failure to possess this factor WILL result in an ineligible rating. Possession of the factor must be verifiable via your resume or support documents.
