USCG provides medical care for over 42,000 active duty and reserve personnel. The incumbent serves as an Aerospace Medicine Physician responsible for providing health care to military aviation personnel to ensure they are operationally ready to execute their missions.

   » Provides medical technical oversight to health care delivery personnel assigned to the Coast Guard Clinic to include advanced practice providers, allied health professionals, and enlisted medical specialists.

   » Provides routine care for medical problems within scope of practice and scope of care for the Coast Guard Clinic.
   » Performs military specific medical tasks, including (but not limited to) periodic physical exams, follow-up for health issues identified during Post-Deployment Health Reassessment, temporary and permanent profiles, fitness-for-duty evaluations, medical boards, flight physicals and aeromedical summaries.

To meet the basic requirements, you must meet the following Requirements:

Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Degree from Foreign Medical School: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical expertise equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). ECFMG through a program of certification, to determine if international medical graduates (IMGs) are ready to enter residency or fellowship programs in the U.S. that are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). ACGME requires IMGs who enter ACGME-accredited programs to be certified by ECFMG. ECFMG Certification is also one of the eligibility requirements for IMGs to take Step 3 of the three-step United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE). Medical licensing authorities in the United States require that IMGs be certified by ECFMG, among other requirements, to obtain an unrestricted license to practice medicine. The requirements have included examinations in the medical sciences, evaluation of English language proficiency, and documentation of medical education credentials.

Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, candidates must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Graduate Medical suitable education Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have completed, at minimum, a residency training program in Aerospace Medicine, Occupational Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine or Internal Medicine at an institution accredited for residency training by a recognized body of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Incumbent must be eligible for board certification (board certification preferred) in Aerospace Medicine, Occupational Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine or Internal Medicine with a minimum of 1 to 2 years of practice beyond residency and progressive practice in breadth and intensity. Board certification in one or more of the five specialties listed above is preferred but not required.

Certification: Must have certification of prosperous completion of a Department of Defense (DOD) sponsored initial Flight Surgeon training program required of all DOD Flight Surgeons.

In addition to the Basic Requirements above, you must meet the following additional requirement to be considered for the GP-14: Applicant must have three (3) years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent practice and training.
