Classification Summary
Serves as a primary fundraiser for a large University operating unit. Designs, implements, and evaluates the unit’s development activities as defined by NMSU Development Office. Personally identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards donors and prospects in conformity with performance targets. Provides leadership abilities, direction, and training to faculty, volunteers, and others in support of the development goals. Collaborates with Development Office staff to maximize total gift revenue through gift planning, corporate and foundation relations, and annual fund strategies.

Classification Standard tasks
Identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards major donors and prospects including individuals, corporations, and foundations, through direct personal contact in conformity with performance targets defined by the NMSU Development Office. Coordinates unit-located development strategies, goals, and activities to ensure their integration into the University’s development program. Enlists senior management in furthering the unit’s development program; Educates and supports management with respect to their development leadership abilities functions. Coordinates volunteers’ activities and ensures their integration into the unit’s programs. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with colleagues in the NMSU Foundation Development Office to maximize the unit’s total gift revenue through gift planning, corporate and foundation relations, and annual fund strategies. Effectively uses the University’s prospect management database and other institutional resources to appropriately manage donors, prospects, alumni, and volunteers. Conducts research to identify prospects and creates strategies to match prospects’ interests to the priorities of the unit. Plans and conducts programs designed to increase the visibility of the unit/ University to internal and external constituencies. Researches, writes, edits, or supervises the preparation of persuasive, accurate, and grammatically and syntactically correct communication materials such as solicitations and proposals in support of the fund-raising activities. Assists in short- and long-range strategic planning activities to create and implement fund-raising goals and objectives. Supervises personnel which includes work allocation, training, promotion and enforcement of internal procedures and controls and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance. Develops and manages budgets for fundraising activities. Performs miscellaneous job-related tasks as assigned.

Job tasks and Responsibilities

Coordinates unit-located development strategies, goals, and activities to ensure their integration into the University’s development program. Enlists senior management in furthering the unit’s development program; Educates and supports management with respect to their development leadership abilities functions.Coordinates volunteers’ activities and ensures their integration into the unit’s programs.Will be required to work with multiple colleges and cultivate a variety of prospects. Assess, cultivate and solicits prospects and current donors with a capacity of $25,000 or more. Manages a portfolio of a 100-200 prospects around the United States. Manages portfolio in Raisers Edge to include but not limited to entering contact reports, proposals and final solicitation. Works collaboratively with Deans, college development agents and central fundraising staff to cultivate and solicit prospects and donors. Works to understand the priorities of the University and colleges/units assigned to position. And other tasks as assigned.

Required practice
Three (3) years of professional practice directly related to the standard tasks as outlined.
