Ultra Electronics Undersea Sensor Systems, Inc. (USSI) is seeking to fill the function of Director of Engineering. this function will be responsible for to ensure critical personnel resources are aligned with our strategic plans, marketing pursuits and program requirements at its Columbia City, IN and Ann Arbor, MI locations. Hiring, training & mentoring plans, succession planning and career progression of the general engineering staff will be supervisen by this function in conjunction with the business area Directors and VP of Production Operations. This Director will also directly manage the Technical, Software Development and Transducer Staffs as well as the Engineering Labs. The function also includes forward looking vision for utilization of emerging technologies. The function will support all USSI programs.
Reporting to: VP of Programs. Member of USSI Executive Management Team.

The Director of Engineering is responsible for:

* Development of a expertise matrix across the engineering staff to recognize existing or future gaps

* Ensuring the proper training plans are planned and executed

* Work with the Managers to ensure succession planning and proactive career path progression

* Active management of the Manpower Database, appropriate staff loading and new personnel recommendations

* Help the VP of Programs prioritize personnel resource demands as required by Program Management, Business Development, Bid & Proposal (B&P) and Internal Research & Development (IR&D)

* Team building and culture of engagement

* Mentoring and mentoring planning

* Coordination of Engineering consultants or outsourcing services

* Monitoring of the IR&D/B&P budget process in support of the VP of Programs

* Support customer interfacing and program reviews

* Create and maintain positive relationships with the internal and external stakeholders of the business in order to establish a customer-focused culture

* Compliance with all engineering and production policies and procedures

* Supporting inputs to the USSI 5-year strategic plan development

* Supporting inputs to the USSI annual budget

* Planning and managing assigned expense budgets

* Support Business Development Gate Reviews and proposal preparation and inputs relative to personnel resources and technology risk assessment

* Management of the Engineering Labs to ensure adequate tools, compliance to safety, calibration, Government Property accountcapability, and general organization and cleanliness

* Taking initiative to explore, promote, and implement innovative technologies that support the company growth initiatives

* Participation in Capcapability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) process groups

* Promote streamlining or automating engineering processes Management of Engineering Labs

* Less than 10% travel

REQUIRED expertise:

* BS/BA level degree in engineering and 16+ years of practice in Program Management or Engineering Management functions or 14+ years with Master s Degree

* 7+ years of practice in leading direct reports

* capability to obtain a security clearance. Security clearances may only be granted to U.S. citizens.

DESIRED expertise:

* DoD practice


* PMP certification or equivalent Program Management certification

* A demonstrated depth and breadth in business acumen across the major functional disciplines including Program Management, Engineering, Operations, Finance, Contracts, Business Development, Marketing and Sales

* A demonstrated capcapability to think strategically and execute tactically

* Demonstrated communication expertise, both written and verbal, at all levels of the organization

* Holding a US DoD security clearance is a plus.
