Under limited supervision, performs managery and recreational work planning, organizing, and directing a variety of indoor/outdoor athletic events and team sports. Work involves coordinating and monitoring athletic programs that are fair for all involved, recreational in nature, fun, and safe. Position is responsible for all staffing and managing of athletic events and programs under charge. Responsible for growing and improving existing Athletics programs and developing and launching new programs. Position will also play an integral function in tracking participants, teams, hotel nights, restaurant and shopping impacts of sports tourism generated by VLPRA. Position will assist in promoting VLPRA and drawing new tournaments and other sports tourism opportunities to the Valdosta-Lowndes County area.

MAJOR tasks:
•Planning, organizing, budgeting, coordinating all athletic programs, some weekend tournaments and special events.
•Will coordinate all apparel and equipment issue for youth football, girls volleyball, softballand basketball program.
•Will formulate and implement equipment policies and procedures, including the issuing of equipment, inventory controls, storeroom access and usage, and equipment security. Will meet with manager to determine equipment and apparel needs, research new innovations and upgrades, and negotiate the purchase of new equipment and apparel.
•Trains personnel (recreation adjuncts andscorekeepers) for athletic programs; performs tasks of personnel in their absence.
•Requisitions supplies, part-time employees and reimbursements for maintenance expenses, purchases all supplies and equipment for recreation programs.
•Schedules the use of recreation facilities for outside groups.
•Acts as time clock manager for all subordinate staff and ensures that accurate signed timesheets for all such staff are turned into theFiscal Coordinatorby set deadlines for payroll.
•Monitors program registration for accuracy; handles fee collection and receipting as needed.
•Conducts coaches meetings and ensures coaches understand all rules.
•Creates and distributes game schedules.
•Receives and responds to public inquiries, requests for assistance, and complaints regarding VLPRA programs and activities.
•Communicates event schedules to Parks Department to ensure field maintenance crews are aware of all games and practices.
•Refers to policies, procedures, directives, league governing rules, handbooks, etc.
•Performs other related tasks as assigned.

•Skill in planning and coordinating large groups of people in order to insure the availcapability of facilities, supplies and volunteers for recreation events.
•expertise in verbal communication and human relations.


practice: Bachelors Degree in Parks and Recreation, Sports Management/Administration or a closely related field; minimum3years practice in recreation/sports programming, college or professional athletic equipment operations and administration, facility operations, and league management; proven public relations & marketing expertise; capability to maintain website and promote programs and events through social media; good planning and organizational expertise.
