Job Description
income starts at $32,000 and is located on practice. Benefits eligible.
The Aquatic Director is responsible for the organization, operations, supervision and delivery of aquatic program and services to the membership and community.  To create an environment that is inviting for members and one they desire to be at.  Provide supervision and development of staff.  To promote a positive culture for participation in aquatic programs and services for members that fulfills the YMCA’s mission, goals and objectives.
   » Current lifeguard training certification required.
   » Current CPR-PR (CPR for the Professional Rescuer) required.
   » Current first-aid certification required.
   » Lifeguard Training Instructor preferred.
   » CPR-PR Instructor preferred.
   » SFA Instructor preferred.
   » Complete additional certification and training as requested.
   » Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university preferred.
   » practice in aquatic operations, management and programming preferred.
   » Proficient use of computers with working expertise of various software programs.
   » capability to manage multiple projects.
   » Positive, effective calm and professional communication – verbally and written – with staff, members/guests, children and parents – tailoring the communication style to the appropriate audience.
Essential Functions
   » Availcapability to work varied hours; early mornings, days, evenings and weekends.
   » Directs and supervises aquatic program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill the YMCA objectives.
   » Develops and monitors the aquatic budget.  
   » Recruits, hires and trains lifeguard and swim instructor staff.
   » Coordinates department staff schedule and assist in coverage of shifts as needed.
   » Compile, approve and submit staff time sheets per each pay period.
   » Has positive, open communication with staff and serves as a resource to them.
   » Plans and facilitates staff in-service training and document training records.
   » Completes phone lists, and other required schedules and records.
   » Completes aquatic scheduling and posting of aquatic hours and group use.  
   » Monitors and evaluates lifeguard and swim instructor performance.
   » Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete. 
   » Maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, on deck and surrounding areas.  
   » Set clear expectations of staff in enforcing health and safety rules and maintaining constant observation of the pool area and emergency readiness.
   » Responsible for the cleanliness of the pool and the pool area in cooperation with the Facilities Manager.
   » Complete facility safety and maintenance check in cooperation with the Facilities Manager.
   » Works with the Facilities Manager to monitor everyday pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations including pool chemical readings all over the day.
   » Respond to emergency situations according to Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid trainings; and with the Aberdeen Family YMCA guidelines, policies and procedures.
   » Complete incident/accident reports as required and follow up on incident/accident reports as needed.
   » Review, evaluate and develop aquatic programming.  Complete program data entry, compile program statistics and monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of participation in programs. 
   » Assist in lifeguarding and teaching swim lessons as needed.
   » Assist with first day of each session of swim lessons:  greeting parents, provide program overview, and staff introductions. Answer questions and provide assistance as needed. 
   » Provide direct on-deck supervision during lessons or assign appropriate staff as lesson deck manager.  
   » Attend final day of lesson session to provide assistance, handout evaluations and seek feedback from parents. 
   » supervise private lessons and develop aquatic swim lesson instructors for teaching private lessons.  This position may teach private lessons; however the hours and rate of pay fall within normal 40 hours/week and pay. No additional compensation is provided to this position for private teaching.  
   » supervise private competitive lesson/training sessions.  Determine appropriate qualified individuals for teaching/coaching these sessions.  
   » Assist in other tasks related to the Aquatics Center such as: rentals, post-proms, Lifeguard Trainings, CPR Trainings, and other connected items.
   » Work with the Group Fitness Director and Senior Director of Youth Development to schedule pool use and provide additional lifeguards as needed. 
   » Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.  
   » A availability to commit to the mission of the YMCA.
   » Promote YMCA membership, programs and services.
   » Promote and incorporate the YMCA’s mission, four core values and areas of focus into all program activities.
   » capability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with staff, volunteers, members and the general public.
   » Responds to all member and community inquires and complaints in a timely manner.
   » Responds to emergency situations in conformity with CPR, First Aid and Aberdeen Family YMCA policies and procedures.  Completes incident and accident reports as required.
   » Be involved in community activities to the benefit of the YMCA and its programs.
   » Attend and participate in staff meetings and/or related meetings and approved trainings. 
   » Assist in the marketing and distribution of program information.
   » Positively communicate information on all YMCA programs.
   » Assist with special events as needed.
   » Actively participates in YMCA events.
   » Work Manager on Duty (MOD) shifts as assigned. 
   » Complete other tasks as assigned.
