BEMP is seeking an education leader who is motivated to engage people through science and stewardship. We are a citizen science organization working to provide fact-located, just and equitable environmental education to students at over 40 schools. If you want to engage students of all ages, prepare them not only for the STEM fields, but help them find the courage and vocabulary to become environmental stewards, this is the place for you.
The Bosque Ecosystem Monitoring Program (BEMP) ( provides environmental education and citizen science programming for up to 10,000 students, teachers, and the public a year, mostly from backgrounds underrepresented in science. BEMP is a partnership of Bosque School and the University of New Mexico, Department of Biology. BEMP’s mission: Science, education, and stewardship of the Rio Grande and its watershed through long-term, hands-on student research of ecosystem response and function to inform public policy.
Position Description
The Education Coordinator manages, mentors, and teaches. The person we hire for this job will demonstrate exemplary environmental education competency and will cultivate great education expertise in others whom they supervise. As a member of BEMP’s senior leadership abilities team, this person will drive and focus the vision of the entire education program while keeping Information technology aligned with BEMP’s mission. They will recognize the power of citizen science as means of connection and will implement innovative programming to fold into existing models of success within BEMP. The position is full time and year round.

Finalists will have an on-site interview that includes a teaching demonstration. Finalists will be asked to provide a professional writing sample(s) and references.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
   » Master’s degree in education, a science discipline, or related field
   » At least 5 years of significant work practice including at least 3 years of K-12 teaching (formal or informal settings) and 2 years of managery practice.
   » Deep expertise of education reform efforts.
   » Strong ecological expertise (Southwest riparian ecosystem expertise preferred)
Desired Qualifications
   » Spanish speaker
   » practice working with a wide variety of students especially from Hispanic, Native American and/or New Mexican communities
   » Outdoor education background with wilderness first aid expertise

Founded in 1994 and located on a 45-acre site in the bosque in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Bosque School values integrity, community and scholarship. Our progressive curriculum is designed to support a lifelong learning mindset through challenge and inquiry. Through the Bosque Environmental Monitoring Program, our students host thousands of peers from around the state as they are trained on-site to collect scientific data for use by researchers at the University of New Mexico. A dynamic Service Learning program develops student leadership abilities expertise. continuing teacher growth is facilitated by the Sofia Center for Professional Development, like BEMP and our student service program, an expression of the school's commitment to public-private partnership in our community. Currently, we serve about 490 students in grades six through twelve. There are over 60 full-time faculty members with more than half of them holding advanced degrees and a support staff of 41. The average class size is 16 and the average student:faculty ratio is 9:1.
