A postdoctoral position focused on dissecting the neuronal circuits of emotion and adaptive behavior is available in the laboratory of Dr. Jonathan P. Fadok at the Tulane Brain Institute.
See Fadok et al. (2017) Nature. 542(7639): 96-100 for recent representative work. Read-only link here:
We utilize a combination of large-scale in vivo recordings of neuronal activity (single-unit electrophysiology and deep brain calcium imaging) and functional manipulations (e.g. optogenetics) during freely moving behavioral assays. We also incorporate modern neuroanatomical tracing techniques , such as cell-type specific anterograde and retrograde methods.
The lab is broadly interested in how the brain generates and controls emotional primitives and the adaptive behaviors that subsequently arise from such internal states. We investigate these phenomena by dissecting neuronal circuits at the level of identified cell types, at both the local and long-range levels. We are especially interested in knowledge how brain regions interact to influence the acquisition of emotionally-laden practices. Furthermore, we are working to bridge the gap between basic science and medicine by using applied methods located on our basic research findings.
The position is available immediately, with a competitive income and benefits package commensurate with prior practice (NIH scale).
candidates should send a CV, brief statement of research interests, and contact information for 3 references to Jonathan Fadok at Information about the lab and a list of publications can be found at m . Applications will be reviewed on an continuing basis.

Candidates should have a recent PhD in neuroscience or related field. Strong programming (Matlab or similar), data analysis, and statistics expertise are preferred, but not required. Previous electrophysiology practice is also preferred, but not required. Excellent written and oral English communication expertise are required.
