A primary support for administrators, teachers, students, and families, the School Psychologist supervises the School’s commitment to care for all members of the school community. Working closely with Division Directors, faculty, and families, the School Psychologist strives to build a positive environment and support the learning of all students through education; best practices; and culturally responsive, research-located avoidance and intervention efforts. The School Psychologist makes regular reports and recommendations to the Head of School and Directors regarding those students and families with whom he/she is working. The School Psychologist’s responsibilities include:
   » Supporting the Head of School and Division Directors to ensure strengthening of the vision, mission, purpose, and values of the school by:
   » actively promoting The McGillis School’s culture and values among faculty, students and families
   » providing input regarding culture, curriculum, program, and practices
   » writing articles for the school publication, the Musings
   » supporting the work of diversity, inclusion, and equity
   » being present during the school day, and at school events including but not limited to shabbatot, faculty meetings, and school-wide community events
   » Supporting students, as well as teaching faculty and families by:
   » serving as a liaison between directors, parents, teachers, learning support specialists and tutors to support students and their learning, including:
   » coordinating and attending team meetings with families, directors, teachers, learning support staff, and when needed, outside providers and tutors
   » attending middle school grade level team meetings
   » coordinating communication with families and teachers in support of students with special needs
   » working closely with middle and lower school learning support specialists
   » observing students of concern, providing recommendations for classroom and home implementation
   » creating and superviseing implementation of Student Intervention Plans
   » communicating with medical personnel and outside providers of evaluations to ensure coordination of student support
   » assisting directors and faculty in interpretation and implementation of appropriate recommendations from evaluations
   » meeting with students individually to provide support
   » providing training to faculty and staff as needed in faculty meetings
   » suggesting and organizing faculty in-service trainings in coordination with directors
   » working in concert with the directors, providing support by meeting individually with students experiencing social, emotional, academic, or behavioral challenges
   » Meeting with parents as needed, to provide support, education, and resources
   » Meeting with individual faculty members as needed, to provide support, education, and resources
   » Serving on the admissions committee, as well as providing input in admissions evaluation and recommendations
   » Providing crisis management and support of the school community as needed
   » superviseing and facilitating the Utah State Office of Education’s Carson Smith Scholarship program, including communicating with families, coordinating with the Salt Lake City school district, maintaining records, and scheduling assessment team meetings
   » Providing parent education and opportunities for dialogue within the McGillis community
   » Informed by current needs, a responsive lens, and a proactive approach, educating all students through weekly and bi-weekly social, emotional, health and wellness programming

Minimum Appropriate qualifications:
   » M.S. Psychology or related degree
   » 3+ years of professional practice
Preferred Appropriate qualifications:
   » D. in Psychology or related degree
   » 5+ years of professional practice
   » Independent School practice
