Ensuring compliance and consistency of the University's brand identity, the Director of Creative Services is responsible for the creative direction and production of work and staff supervision. He/she directs the activities of subordinates to maintain the University's standards of creative excellence, timeliness and cost effectiveness, while achieving the strategic direction and goals of the institution and its stakeholders.
This position reports to the Vice President of Marketing and Communications and supervises a creative team including a graphic designer, staff photographer and copy center specialist.
Primary Job responsibilities:
supervise creative consultation and art direction for all University channels of communications to assure appropriate creative strategies, adequacy/accuracy of input, production schedules, budgets, production support, reviews and approvals and client presentations, as appropriate, providing insight from concept to delivery.
Insures the timely development and execution of plan, campaigns, and projects to assure growth and financial objectives are achieved.
Plans, develops and defends budget recommendations, work goals, measurements, and training necessary to provide effective and high quality, cost effective and error free service to 'clients'.
Provides leadership abilities/motivation and conveys the vision and values of the department to other OC staff and the University
Serve as the senior in-house graphic designer.
Supervise graphic designer, staff photographer and copy center specialist, and manage freelance print and web designers and content contributors, as needed.
Conduct weekly status meetings to prioritize projects and communicate critical information to significant team members.
Provide innovative thinking to ensure the University's aesthetic and deployments remains fresh, modern and significant to its audiences.
Create, document and communicate all Creative Services processes and operating procedures to the Norwich community.
Manage print jobs including vendor selection, cost negotiations, pre-press uploading PDFs to ftp sites, color proof approvals, on-site approval and press checks, and post-production back-up, storage and project review.
Facilitates and promotes university initiatives and values all over the function.

The Director of Creative Services must be a dedicated, motivated team leader, invested in raising the bar for Communications at Norwich University. The prosperous candidate will have a minimum of five year's practice as an art director and/or graphic design, as well as in managing creative workflow and staff. He/she must have a demonstrated history of positive interpersonal skills, an capability to juggle multiple demands, meet deadlines, and problem solving with aplomb. An practiced presenter adept at presenting concepts and assuring established policy/procedures are understood and adhered to. skills in graphic design in multiple print and electronic mediums is required and proficiency in the latest versions of graphic design software, including but not limited to advanced Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe InDesign, is expected.
