The Communications and Development adjunct will support both the Communications and Development departments.

The Communications Department is responsible for developing a coherent voice and delivering clear public messages to inform both US and international audiences of MSF, its field activities and the humanitarian principles that underpin them.

The Development Department is responsible for raising over $350 million annually in funds in order to meet the financial needs of our organization which allows MSF to carry out its mission effectively and efficiently


The Communications and Development adjunct will be responsible for providing administrative support to the Communications and Development Departments. Tasks include and are not limited to: coordinating travel, scheduling meetings, organizing meeting rooms, taking minutes, reserving conference phone lines when requested, ordering and setting up food if appropriate.


  • Triage donor requests to appropriate department personnel regarding annual report publishing;

  • Produce and compile monthly analytics reports on key performance indicators for the communications department;

  • Manage adobe subscriptions for all of MSF by processing invoices, keep continuing list of current subscriptions and handle request for new licenses;

  • Track department expenses; process incoming invoices, reconcile financial credit card statements;

  •    »
  • Manage offsite storage of development and communications materials and maintain appropriate quantity of organizational marketing and informational materials in office;

  • Provide support to the fundraising events department on special projects such as; MSF On the Road and FFH Donor Events;

  • Manage periodical and online subscriptions;

  •    »
  • Organize communications briefings and debriefings with field staff passing through the New York office and manage the MSF Wiki site, including updating profiles of current field staff, creating new profiles for new field staff and granting office staff access to the website;

  • Reply to general email and telephone queries, with Program Associate and Reception. Triage and vector queries to appropriate department personnel;

  •    »
  • Provide administrative support for special communications projects and events such as Forced in the house, webcasts and press conferences;

  •    »
  • Provide support to the front desk on occasion;

  •    »
  • Assist with research projects and writing tasks, as assigned.



  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.); plus one to two years related practice; or equivalent combination of education and practice. Fundraising education and/or practice is a big plus

  •    »
  • Strong computer literacy, including capability to use word processing, spreadsheet and database software. expertise of PowerPoint.

  •    »
  • Project management practice including keen attention to detail with capability to track multiple projects at one time and to prioritize continuing vs. immediate needs appropriately.

  •    »
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication expertise.

  •    »
  • Strong service orientation.

  •    »
  • Excellent judgment and diplomacy.

  •    »
  • capability to effectively present information and MSF’s voice to donors.

  •    »
  • capability to write a range of correspondence from formal business letters to thank-you notes.

  • capability to work with a minimum of supervision.

  • Genuine interest in and commitment to the humanitarian principles of MSF.

  • Working expertise of fundraising.

  •    »
  • Prior practice in a non-profit fundraising work, volunteer, or educational environment.
