The University of Wisconsin-River Falls (UWRF), a member of the University of Wisconsin System, is located on the eastern edge of the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area in scenic west central Wisconsin. Year-round arts, cultural, and recreational activities and events are easily accessible from River Falls. The 6,100 undergraduate and graduate students at UWRF pursue degrees in four colleges: Education and Professional Studies; Arts and Sciences; Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences; and Business and Economics. Job tasks: This is a responsible mechanical maintenance and repair worker position requiring individual initiative, good mechanical expertise and independent judgment. This person is responsible for the repair of a wide variety of mechanical equipment necessary for heating, air conditioning and ventilating of campus buildings and also repairs of other mechanical building systems, including electrical and plumbing. This position has the responsibility of performing the preventative maintenance in assigned university buildings and other university buildings as needed.

Job expertise, expertise and Abilities:
   » Visual acuity necessary to read parts books and equipment manuals.
   » capability to read requisitions and receive information; capability to read English language sufficiently to read and understand construction documents (i.e., blueprints). capability to read work orders, printed history pages and schedules from the energy Management System, hazardous substance warnings, installation and repair manuals, and equipment operating instructions.
   » capability to orally communicate effectively with others using the English language, in person or over the telephone, with or without the use of auxiliary aids, in order to convey information.
   » Interpersonal expertise necessary to interact effectively with the public and other University employees.
   » Analytical expertise necessary to diagnose and correct mechanical failures in heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems.
   » Sufficient manual dexterity with one hand to operate hand and power tools, manually complete paperwork such as recording items on work orders and receiving documents, and operate computer terminal for EMS.
   » Must have sufficient physical flexibility to stoop, crawl under HVAC equipment (i.e., air handling units) and other low spaces in order to execute preventive maintenance tasks.
   » Perform tasks requiring standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and walking significant distances between and within buildings on campus in order to attend to various maintenance tasks across campus.
   » capability to enter, exit, and perform tasks in confined spaces in order to correct problems and maintain heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems.
   » capability to climb stairs, ladders and scaffolding, and work at heights above 30 feet in order to reach HVAC equipment.
   » capability to grasp, lift and/or carry, or otherwise move HVAC equipment or components (i.e., motors) weighing a maximum of 50 pounds.
   » Must be physically able to lift your arms above your head in order to reach remote HVAC equipment installations.
   » capability to execute tasks within extreme temperature ranges so as to do necessary outdoor maintenance in the summer and winter.
   » This job requires a valid driver’s license with an excellent driver’s record which would permit Wisconsin certification in order to drive University vehicles.
   » capability to work with and cooperate with managery staff at all levels in order to maintain a smoothly functioning work unit.
   » capability to lgain and perform all essential job functions accurately and safely with minimal direct supervision.
   » capability to understand and apply information presented in training programs, conferences, and/or professional literature in order to keep abreast of changes in the job/do your job safely/etc.
   » Basic mathematical expertise, including addition, subtraction and multiplication, necessary to complete work orders.
   » prosperous completion of a pre-employment screen.
   » Thorough expertise of basic mechanical systems, the capability to diagnose failures, and perform necessary repairs.
   » practice with kitchen and lab equipment preferred.
   » Five years construction, welding, building maintenance or HVAC practice preferred.
   » Universal refrigeration license is preferred.
   » capability to work independently, developing priorities and schedules to maximize productivity.
   » expertise of OSHA safety regulations, the capability to recognize potential safety issues, and the proper use of PPE to minimize risks.
