STATEMENT OF OPPORTUNITY

St. Andrew’s Schools seeks to attract an inspiring and practiced educator interested in leading our all-boys, K-5 educational program. The prosperous candidate will have an affinity for knowledge the developmental life of young boys and infuse this knowledge into the instructional and educational program. The Prep Principal will be responsible for developing, implementing and refining our curricular and co-curricular programs and will possess a personal presence that instills trust, and radiates warmth and confidence. The Prep Principal will collaborate closely with our all-girls Lower School Principal and the Director of Educational Programs to ensure systemic coherence in our progressive and innovative K-12 coordinate school.

Position Description
The principal is charged with inspiring and leading the faculty as an instructional leader and ensuring a high quality educational program. The principal serves on the K-12 Educational leadership abilities Team as well as the School leadership abilities Team, and is a direct report to the Director of Educational Programs.


Responsibilities
   » Provide educational vision and instructional leadership abilities for The Prep and help to create learning environments and practices where boys love to lgain and thrive.
   » Support and help teachers implement effective instructional strategies which are grounded in educational research on how children best learn, paying particular attention to the physical, social, emotional and psychological development of boys
   » Provide strong, thoughtful, and dynamic instructional leadership abilities that promotes teacher growth and thoughtful reflection on our curriculum and instructional practices
   » Integrate innovative and emerging best practices into our educational programs to create engaging and effective learning practices for our young boys
   » Create and support engaging and innovative professional development opportunities for teachers
   » Promote and support a broad and appropriate range of opportunities for student academic and personal growth through vibrant curricular and co-curricular programs
   » Uphold a culture of care and kindness through respectful, honest, and valuable interactions with all community members
   » Communicate effectively with all constituents (students, parents, faculty and staff) regarding educational programs and policies
   » Promote open and healthy communication between the School and home
   » Manage the day-to-day operations of The Prep, direct the staff in their tasks, and work with faculty and families to ensure a quality education for each child
   » Work collaboratively with the Educational leadership abilities Team to create a coherent and appropriately integrated K – 12 curriculum and co-curriculum that is continuously examined, renewed, and communicated
   » Use opportunities and possibilities within the PK–12 educational program to ensure continuity, alignment, and coherence across our family of schools
   » Work with the Director of Educational Programs and academic scheduler to prepare a master school class schedule and to assign teachers and students to classes and other obligations.
   » In concert with the Director of Educational Programs hire faculty and evaluate performance
   » Keep the Director of Educational Programs and the Head of School informed of the general programs, activities, and issues of the school as appropriate

Qualifications and Desirable Personal Qualities
   » Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education and a minimum of 5 years’ practice in teaching or elementary school students
   » A minimum of 3 years’ practice in leading teachers (e.g. as a teacher leader, instructional coach, dean, department head, and/or division head)
   » An effective and respected teacher who loves working with children, readily sees the unique gifts and talents of each child, and can help others do the same
   » A strong communicator and relationship builder; an educational leader who engenders trust; and an individual who inspires change rather than mandates change
   » A reflective, adaptable, and patient leader who is a unifier and is reasonable, sensitive, and perceptive
   » Able to build consensus and forge relationships among various diverse constituencies while maintaining high standards and honoring a tradition of care and excellence
   » A capacity to effectively and efficiently manage a complex and vibrant educational organization – with a demonstrated capability to prioritize, focus, delegate, and follow through
   » An excellent judge of people and talent; practiced and skilled at hiring, while thoughtfully matching people with appropriate functions and positions
   » A deep appreciation for diversity at all levels, at ease in a highly multi-cultural environment, and possess a deep knowledge of, and keen sensitivity to, cultural differences
   » An capability to lead and nurture a superb faculty/staff that is energetic, confident, thoughtful, loyal, and dedicated – and that seeks guidance in finding an appropriate student-centered balance between professional autonomy and professional collaboration
   » A availability to be an engaged, active, and enthusiastic personal presence in all aspects of student life
   » A cultivator of significant engagement with students and their families through dialogue and attendance at school and community sponsored events
   » A true learner who enjoys educating self and others about the educational, physical, social, emotional, and psychological needs of young boys
   » An practiced, innovative designer of students practices that meet the needs of young boys.
   » A availability to be a strong partner with the Director of Educational Programs to implement an innovative educational program and to marshal the resources to ensure student success
