Interior Safety Engineering Group Manager & Global Subsystem Leader

The General Motors Interior Safety System Management Team (SMT) is seeking a strategic minded, collaborative, and energizing leader to supervise a group of Engineers and Subject Matter Experts involved in safety component engineering and development.

Key Job responsibilities:
   » Coach and mentor a direct team including frequent performance feedback, career planning, and merit planning.
   » Provide technical leadership abilities, mentoring, and coaching of indirect global engineering team members working on safety components.
   » Lead the engineering safety team catalog of advanced technology project work (ATW).
   » Lead the Global Subsystem leadership abilities Team (GSSLT) to drive outstanding quality and global u201Cread acrossu201D, leveraging Quality Chain, process, Best Practices, DFMEAu2019s, Peer Reviews and DFSS methodology.
   » Lead and conduct global peer reviews for pre-SORP program safety commodities.
   » Maintain, develop, and Evolve design best practices, DFMEA baselines, and ensure linkage to PFMEA control plans.
   » Ensure systemic issues identified on program execution projects are understood, and ensure irreversible corrective actions are developed. Perform read-across analysis globally.
   » Support investigations and corrective actions regarding Safety Tethers, u201CSpeak Up For Safetyu201D, and Prevent Repeat Defects (PRD's).
   » Identify opportunities to develop and release Corporate Common Components (CCC), and Corporate Managed Solutions (CMS).
   » Collaborate with SMT leadership abilities, engineering experts, Safety Performance Integration, User practice Design team, Vehicle Architecture, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Program Teams to ensure key program deliverables are met.
   » Work closely with purchasing partners, local, and global engineering teams to develop commodity bill of material (BOM) row strategies for safety components that support General Motorsu2019 global footprint needs.
   » Assess and approve airbag and seat belt submissions to be evaluated by the Patent Review Board.
   » Provide Qualified for Sourcing (QFS) approvals for future restraint technology.

Required:
   » Bachelor of Science in Engineering
   » 15+ years of practice in designing and developing airbags, seatbelts, and Steering Wheels
   » practice with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) / Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) requirements, as well as Regional New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) and other safety related consumer metrics.
   » Exceptional cross-functional communication expertise of complex issues to enable world class designs, packaging efficiency and vehicle integration for safety components.
   » Demonstrated people leader capability and manage a large multitude of assignments with high levels of composure and effective implementation.
   » capability to travel.

Preferred:
   » Master of Science u2013 Engineering
   » Master of Business Administration
   » DFSS u2013 Black Belt
   » Systems engineering practice
