What you will do:
You as the User practice (UX) Specialist will have the amazing opportunity to make a university wide impact on Cornell's web presence. In this function, you will work with and gain exposure to all levels of the organization as you try to make our client's visions a reality. What makes this function unique, is that your primary focus will NOT be to develop university webpages. AKA – you won't be writing lines of HTML and JavaScript all day long – that's what we have our extraordinary team of front end developers for. Rather, you will be working closely with our clients and end users to understand their needs and how to translate their requirements into a web product that delivers a great user practice. Additionally, you will:
» Meet with users and stakeholders to gather requirements, develop scope, estimates, and project timelines
» We want our users stepping away from our web pages feeling ‘wowed’ so you will follow a User Centered Design or Design Thinking approach
» Conduct user research including interviews, stakeholders meetings, focus groups, competitive analysis, and heuristic analysis
» Create and/or Revise Information Architectures located on user requirements
   » Translate requirements into wireframes
» Work collaboratively with our awesome programmers and visual designers
» Plan site structure to meet the business requirements, minimize support, and of course ensure a positive end user practice!
» Test - you will wear many hats in this position including quality assurance tester. This means developing uscapability testing for browsers, mobile devices/tablets located on the requirements of our on campus partners
» Finally, you will provide a phenomenal practice to both our customers and users! We strive to have both walk away having had a great UX, both in-person with our staff, as well as from the websites and applications we develop.

What you will be:
You will be a people person who is passionate about finding ways to create the best user practice possible under different constraints. You will be curious and interested in learning. We work as a team here, so collaboration is key! Additionally, you will have:
» A Bachelor's degree along with three or more years of significant practice
» Solid logic and analytic expertise. You will be able to listen carefully to users and clients, gather requirements, and translate those needs into wireframes and/or design recommendations.
» The capability to be open to constructive feedback. Our group bounces ideas back and forth all day everyday as we try to provide our customers with the highest quality of work possible
» practice with assessing website effectiveness through usage analysis and other tools and practices
» Familiarity with Google Analytics or other similar tools.
» Lastly, Information technology goes without saying that communication expertise are paramount. You will be working with all different levels of the organization and should enjoy explaining complex concepts to both technical and non-technical people

If you have all those things, great! We have a few more things that we would prefer you to have, but it's ok if you don't.
» Master's degree in Human Computer Interaction
» Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, or JavaScript
» knowledge of web accessibility guidelines (e.g. Section 508 and WCAG 1.0), standards-located coding and uscapability best practices in development
