The applicant must have an earned M.S. or Ph.D. in Mathematics or a closely related area, a strong teaching record, and the capability to teach a variety of mathematics courses effectively. Prior practice teaching mathematics is essential, and prior practice or availability to teach in hybrid or online formats is a plus. Opportunities for teaching additional summer or online courses may be available for further compensation. UVM offers a generous benefits package, including health, dental, retirement contributions, and tuition remission.

The University of Vermont is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. Applications from women, veterans, individuals with disabilities and people from diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds are encouraged. The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community. To that end, candidates must provide a statement as part of the application describing how they can promote diversity at the University.

The University of Vermont, established in 1791, is a comprehensive research university with a current enrollment of 12,000+ undergraduate, graduate, and medical students. The scientific and academic environments in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences, and all over the UVM community are dynamic, highly collaborative, and multi-disciplinary.

The University is located in Burlington, Vermont, about 90 miles south of Montreal. Burlington is often rated as the best small city in America for quality of living, and features year-round outdoor recreation and cultural events. Greater Burlington has a population of approximately 150,000 and enjoys a panoramic setting on Lake Champlain, bordered by the Adirondack and Green Mountains.

For full consideration, the applicant must submit all of the following: (1) a cover letter detailing how the required qualifications are met, (2) a current curriculum vitae identifying specific areas of skills, (3) a statement detailing teaching practice and interests, specific teaching strengths, and ideas for contributing to the undergraduate teaching and curriculum of the department, (4) a statement describing how the applicant can promote diversity at the University through teaching and service, and (5) names and email addresses of at least three individuals who can provide letters of reference, at least two of whom can comment on teaching. These individuals will receive requests to submit their letters electronically. All application materials must be submitted online at http://www.uvmjobs.com, posting number F955PO . Inquiries may be addressed to E-Mail: mathsearch@cems.uvm.edu. Review of applications will begin January 16, 2018 and continue until the position is filled.
