The Institute for Humane Education (IHE) was founded in 1996 and trains educators through its online master's degree and graduate certificate programs, offered through an affiliation with Valparaiso University. IHE also provides professional development courses, award-winning resources, workshops and an in-school SolutionaryProgram to help educators to incorporate globalissues into schools and education programs across the globe. IHE co-founder and president Zoe Weil's acclaimed TEDx talk “The World Becomes What You Teach” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5HEV96dIuY provides the vision behind the organization's work. 



IHE has a highly engaged and professional board consisting of members who bring a broad range of skills and perspectives with a shared passion for the interconnected issues that comprise humane suitable education human rights, environmental sustaincapability, animal protection and transformational change in education, and a commitment to IHE's vision to educate people of all ages to be solutionaries, who:


 • know, care about, and take responsibility for what is happening on our planet, to other people, to other species, and to the ecosystems that sustain us all;

• can identify systems that are unjust, inhumane, and unsustainable;

• use their skills and expertise to develop practical, effective, and visionary solutions to the challenges we face today.


Board members are expected to serve on committees and attend 4-6 meetings per year; one in person on the east coast and the rest via video conference.IHE staff are all remote except for one person at the office headquarters. There is no reimbursement for travel.

Appropriate qualifications:

The IHE board is currently seeking board members with skills in one of more of these areas:

•Nonprofit financial management/accounting/planning



•Fundraising/Networking
•Education (K-12 teacher/admin/policy/curriculum dev; college recruiting; e-learning.)
•Human Resources

•Non-profit legal and trademark
Must have prior practice serving on nonprofit boards.
