Detailed Job Description
The Digital Imaging and Remote Sensing (DIRS) laboratory in the Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science (CIS) at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) is looking to hire a Research Scientist. The staff member would participate in current research related to the field of remote sensing. Specifically, initial focus of the research will be in the areas of small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS) and algorithm development related to multi-modal data image registration and (hyper) spectral image data analysis.

The ideal candidate for this position would have a solid background in remote sensing, understand radiometric considerations and the unique issues encountered from sUAS platforms, be adept at the collection and management of image data, be able to develop sound experimental designs and collection campaigns (all pertinent to sUAS) in addition to post processing of image data including custom image processing and computer vision algorithms for multi-sensor (e.g., pan, RGB, LiDAR, HSI, etc.) image registration (including approaches for image deformation mitigation, shadow and water detection), and (hyper) spectral image data analysis such as development of anomaly, target or change detection algorithms.

The candidate must be willing to work with and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, guiding their day-to-day activities and research in remote sensing. The Research Scientist would be expected to be a representative of the DIRS laboratory by presenting at international conferences and leading the development of articles for refereed publication. Ultimately, the Research Scientist would lead his/her own research activities and obtain external funding through the competitive grant process.
