Detailed Job Description
The Integrated Photonics Group at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) is soliciting applications for a Fiber Attach Engineer. The prosperous applicant will work on integrated photonic packaging research and development. The engineer will be responsible for the development of fiber alignment and attachment solutions, including (but not limited to) single mode coupling from optical fiber to integrated photonic waveguides, UV and thermal adhesive selection and characterization, fiber/fiber array design, semiconductor micromachining and processing (MEMS), optoelectronic package design and multi-physics modelling [mechanical, optical and thermal]. The engineer will be working on a multi-disciplinary, multi-institution team and should have excellent communication expertise. Candidates should have a M.S. or Ph.D. in in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Optics, Microsystems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Material Science, or a related discipline. Candidates with B.S. degrees will be considered if they have significant practice in related fields (optics, photonics and/or MEMS).

Required Minimum Qualifications
M.S. or Ph.D. inMechanical Engineering, Physics, Optics, Microsystems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Material Science, or a related discipline; B.S. with significant practice in optics, photonics and/or MEMS (3+ years).

Require expertise:
   » practice significant to photonic packaging ( optoelectronic packaging, integrated photonics, fiber optics, micro-machining, micro-assembly, micro-optics, adhesives, electronic packaging)

Required Minimum Education Level
BS, MS, MA, PhD

Preferred Qualifications
   » practice with simulation/modeling of optoelectronic components
   » Multi-physics modelling (optical, mechanical and thermal)
   » expertise of microfabrication (particularly micromachining and/or integrated photonics)
   » Optical lab practice
   » Semiconductor cleanroom practice
   » Software: Finite Element Modeling, Package Design, Optical Simulation

Preferred Education Level
MS, MA, PhD
